Welder ... or a buddy with one ;)
Primer, Paint, bedliner...
Hmmmmmm would have been easy, but since I like things perfect ......
The skid itself is quite sturdy. When I first got it, I test fitted it and didn't like the way it hung down in the rear. There was so much room between the skid & t-case I decided to call Skid Row to see if there was something I was missing. They told me that the Skid was made for an XJ with a 1 inch t-case drop. I won't go into detail about how ridiculous this is, so lets just say I decided to cut the skid and remove some material.
1. I cut the skid along the back and decided to overlap the seam I would be making. Kinda hard to explain, but I made a cut, removed about 1" of material and overlapped about 1" of material...here are some test fit shots after the cutting & some grinding.

2. After having my buddy John make some welds for me (thanks dude) I brought the skid home and hit the welds with the grinder again.
3. Next I filled in any gaps with some liquid metal filler and once dry I hit it all with some fine sandpaper.
4. Next I did a few coats of primer, then a few coats of Rust Olem "hammered" paint.

5. Before putting it on, I decided to hit a few coats of bedliner on it just for the hell of it.
6. Now for the mounting ... not as easy as you'd think. Make sure you check where all the bolts will go before you drill anything, I had some trouble with the front bolt closest to the passenger side wanting to hit the t-case mount.
7. I used a floor jack to hold the skid in place while I marked holes, then drilled pilot holes in them all.
8. I then removed the skid and drilled out the holes for the frame bolts, then re mounted the skid using those bolts.
9. With the frame bolts a little loose I rechecked the bolt position for the cross member and drilled the holes for that and put the botls through. I couldn't get one in the way I wanted to so I improvised ... but it'll hold ...
10. here are a few shoof it finished. Sorry about the dirt on it, but you get the idea.

11. After I got it mounted, I put the floor jack under it and lifted my XJ off the ground. It did bend the skid upwards a bit, but it did hole together, so I think the skid (and John's welds) are gonna do just fine.
