Things Needed
Touch up paint, small bottle with brush
Liquid Metal or other body filler
Paint & Clear coat
Primer
Some sort of molding of your choice.... mines called "fiberglass running board molding"
basic socket set
Dremel with gringing stone
Angle Grinder with cutting disks & grinder disk
Drill & bits
Marker
JB Weld
2 small c clamps
wax ( I also used some gx27 scratch remover, yes it really works)
Masking tape
Newspaper
Gloves, saftey glasses appropriate clothing...
*Not for the faint of heart*
Still working on it but here is the rough draft.
Note I left a little lip to put the molding on and so that if I ever had problems getting an inspection sticker for tires that stick out too far I can throw the flares back on.
1. Remove your fender flares, wheel well insert and all the end caps.
2. Using the drill, drill the rivets off of the rear bumper cap brackets attached to the quarterpanels.
3. Using the marker, mark off where you plan to cut. I cut just into the holes that were uses to mount the flares, molding should cover it all up.
4. Go ahead and make your cuts. Remember you can grind off the excess, but can't easily add material back on. For the straight cuts, I used the angle grinder. I used the dremel for the first two fenders in the curves, but as I got comfortable I used the grinder for the rest.
5. Once you get things cut, clean up your cuts and take off any excess with the grinding disk.
6. Use the dremel to smooth your cuts out.
7. I also used the grinder to cut the support bracket at the top of the wheel well. I cut off just enough to be able to JB weld it back into place and hold it with the c clamps.
8. With everything metal cut, I trimmed my front & rear end caps (& airdam) so I could reuse them until I get new bumpers.
9. I also trimmed the wheel well inserts so that I would still have something to stop debris from getting up into the fenders.
10. Before you get everything back in, be sure to hit up any bare metal with your touch up paint.
11. Next I used Liquid Metal to fill the holes left from the rivets, sanded them back down, taped off the area I wanted to paint, and sprayed on some primer.
12. After a few coats of primer I put on a few coats of paint, then a few coats of clear coat.
13. Now you can go ahead and get the front caps & wheel well inserts back on. Yes I cut mine till the fit back in...but they still do the job.
14. Using the molding you picked out, apply it around the opening to give a clean look.
Some shots while I was buffing out the scratches from the flares...
15. I also peeled off the "sport" trim on the sides. Either way, nows a good time to buff out any scratches the fenders &/or trim left.
Some finished shots...just need to wash & wax it

**I am ordering a BPI front bumper to fill the gaps up front & I am also ordering a C4x4 rear bumper for a pre 97 to fill the gaps in the rear. I'll post pics as soon as I get em.
