NEW FRONT COIL SPRINGS

Parts needed:
Rancho 3" lift springs, part #620 I think
Random large washers
6 pack of Michelob light

Tools:
Basic socket set with enough extension bars to run the length of the spring
Deep Socket Set (I prefer impact sockets as they are a lot stronger)
1 pair of channel lock pliers
One 1&1/4" (one and one quarter inch) socket
Breaker Bar
Hydraulic/bottle jack
Hi lift jack (or really tall jack stands)
Cell Phone

Changing out your springs is a two person job. I did one side before Rob came over but I still needed to call somebody when I realized i was missing a socket.

1. Spray down all your bolts with wd-40 or rust eater.

2. First thing to do is to remove the sway bar if you have one. This can be done with only sockets but havind some crescent wrenches would have been nice

3. Next, set your parking brake.

4. Place your hydraulic/bottle jack under the axle and jack it up just enough to remove the tire.

5. Now with the tire off, use your hi lift or jack stands to support that side the vehicle.

6. Remove the top nuts on both shocks if you have 2. Remove the bottom nut on the front shock also.

7. Remove the spring retainer at the top of the spring.

8. Slowly! Let the bottle jack down so that the axle lowers until the spring comes loose from the shock/spring tower. Make sure your brake lines have enough slack and that the jack is still supporting the axle, not the brake line. if you don't have enough slack you might have to remove the caliper. I have stock length brake lines and had no problems with this at all.

9. Remove the spring cup retaining nut that is holding in the bottom of the spring with the 1&1/4" socket. If you didn't have one like I didn't start calling people until you find a sucker. You might have to loosen this nut using extensions depending on how thick your current springs are. Mine were thin and my breaker bar fit through it.

10. Put the bottom of the new spring in place and bolt it in. I found the springs to not fit as well as the old ones, I had to use a nut to space the spring back from the front shock and even with the cup retainer and nut in place the spring was loose. I guess I'll have to get somebody to make me a bigger retainer cup.

11. With the bottom in place you will have to use some muscle to get the top of the spring in place as you start jacking the bottle jack up to help hold the top in place.

12. When you get the top of the spring in place reinstall the retaining clip in the top of the spring.

13. I used washers to space out the bottom of my front shock so that it wouldn't hit the spring under load.

14. Reinstall the front shock, bottom first, the reinstall the top nut on the back shock.

15. Jack the axle up enough to put the tire back on and repeat everything for the other side.
