AUTO TO MANUAL HUB SWAP

Parts Needed
Milemarker Street Master Hubs
If you have auto hubs with 5 cap screws like mine (see pic) you won't need a conversion kit.

Tools Needed
Snap ring Pliers
Breaker Bar
Allen wrench
Star Driver
Locknut Spanner tool (ford no. T59T-1197-B)
Troque wrench

Changing out your hubs is a fairly simple process. One person can easily do it but it helps to have a buddy there in case you forget something(Thanks Rob).

1. First thing to do is to get your old hubs off. Remove you cap screws and the cap.

2. Race spring & cup and bearing will come out next.

Then remove your seal bridge retainer, the lock ring that holds the body in and the old hub body. This was the most time consuming part of the job for me, only because I couldn't get the lock ring out for a long time.

3. Next remove the "c" washer and the splined spacer.

4. Now you can slide the new hub in. Put the large lock ring in and two cap screws to test the float on the hubs. You want it to move in and out a little. If it doesn't you need to adjust the wheel bearing locknut. If it floats you can to go step 10.

5. This is where you will need the locknut spanner tool. Remove the outer wheelbearing lock nut, then the washer.

6. Using your locknut spanner and torque wrench tighten the inner bearing adjuster to 50 ft-lbs while rotating the wheel back and forth to seat the bearing.

7. Back the adjusting nut off 45 degrees.

8. Put the washer and outer lock nut back on and torque to 150 ft-lbs

9. Go back to step 4.

10. Remove the cap screws and install the snap ring.

11. Put the cap on and tighten with allen screws.

12. Anybody need some used, but functioning, auto hubs?

*NOTE*

I was having problem during the installation aquiring the correct amount of float in the hub. Part of the problem was that when I reassembled the wheelbearing locknuts, I wasn't lining up the pin in the adjuster nut, with the holes on the washer. Make sure you do this! Even so, after replacing those parts, I still didn't have and give/float. I tested both hubs and both functioned properly, but since I had some superwinch hubs lying around I decided to try them. They fit much better and didn't have plastic caps like the milemarkers. They were also easier to engage so I kept the superwinch hubs on.
